Roxboro is an ambitious 13-acre development that will revitalize an east end Hamilton neighbourhood, while addressing the critical need for more affordable housing in the city. The project is a strategic alliance between Carriage Gate Homes, UrbanCore Developments, Effort Group and City Housing Hamilton (CHH) that could see up to 800 units constructed, including new CHH-owned rental apartments.

Designed by KNYMH Architects, Roxboro features a collection of three-storey urban and park towns with sleek exterior architecture characterized by covered entryways, contemporary garage doors and large windows. A variety of elevations with brick, vinyl siding and distinctive colour palettes are available to choose from, including some with glass balcony enclosures.

Inside, the open-concept layouts provide plenty of space for growing families with expansive living rooms, functional kitchens and generously-sized bedrooms.

Located at Hayes Avenue and Bingham Road in Hamilton’s east end, Roxboro is situated in an existing neighbourhood that predates the city’s industrial era. While it was previously home to the recently-demolished Roxborough Park School, the site dates back to 1929 when the Hamilton Municipal Airport was created at Reid Avenue North and Dunsmure Road. The facility featured an airmail service that operated during the 1930s. The original complex featured small homes that were used to accommodate pilots during their stopovers while en route to the Atlantic provinces.

The community revitalization will include the refurbishment of a spray pad, playground structure and swing set, in addition to new asphalt pathways, picnic tables and trees. The north baseball field will be converted into a slow-pitch softball field, while the south baseball diamond will be replaced with a multi-purpose court for basketball and ball hockey.

Residents of Roxboro will benefit from a WalkScore of 98, Transit Score of 100, along with a wealth of local amenities from schools and beaches to gastropubs and golf courses. The development also offers convenient access to the Lincoln M. Alexander Parkway and the Red Hill Valley Parkway, which continues north to the Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW), making it ideal for commuters.

First occupancies are slated to begin in late 2021 or early 2022. To learn more about Roxboro, register online today.
